FORMER model Penny Lancaster has worn many hats in her time and it was with great pride and perserverance that she was able to don her special constable’s helmet after joining the City of London police back in 2021.

But now the wife of rockstar Rod Stewart has revealed that she’s been relegated to “desk duty,” instead of her usual role on the front line.

The 53-year-old Loose Women panelist decided to retrain after taking part in the Channel 4 reality show, Famous and Fighting Crime, which followed Penny, Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and charity campaigner Katie Piper, volunteering with London’s emergency services.

After finishing the show, Penny went on to commit to 200 hours of work with the City of London.

But speaking to OK magazine this week, Penny explained why she’s been forced to take on a different role for the foreseeable.

She said: "I'm still with the City of London police but at the moment I’m not on the frontline, because I’ve got a bit of a knee injury. Even though it appears to be fine, the doctors have recommended that I don't run yet - which is needed when you’re on the frontline. So I’m on desk duty for a while. I’ve been slowed down!"

While husband Rod has amassed a fortune of some £300 million, the rocker is fully supportive of his wife’s strong sense of purpose and desire to give back.

Speaking on The Graham Norton show, he said: “She trained for eight months, and she loves it. I backed her all the way. She says she loves giving something back, but more importantly she wants to protect the city she loves.”

As well as her 'regular police work', Penny was also part of the police team working during the King's coronation in May last year.

Speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain at the time, she revealed: "It was the most fabulous day and of course, tremendously proud and honoured to have been given that opportunity, along with the City of London Police, that I’m a special constable for."
