Graeme Souness had just two words in store for Simon Jordan who questioned whether Jurgen Klopp is an elite manager.

The Liverpool boss – who takes charge of his last game as manager against Wolves on Sunday (May 19) – has earned legendary status at Anfield. He led the club to its first Premier League title in 2020 and sixth Champions League trophy in 2019 among other honours.

The German has long been regarded as one of the best managers in the world, going back to his days at Borussia Dortmund. And he has certainly placed himself among the greatest managers in Premier League history.

During a discussion on elite managers in football on William Hill's 'Three Up Front' podcast featuring Simon Jordan, Graeme Souness, and Troy Deeney, the former Crystal Palace owner spewed his opinion on what elite management is while taking aim at Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta for his lack of silverware.

"He's won nothing outside an FA Cup, yet you think he's an elite manager, Alonso's changed the rules because normally you need a bit of stability and need time and I think that's a crock of s*** by the way, the only stability you get is how well you do the job and how you're showing people that your progressing," Jordan claimed.

He then focused his attention on Klopp and asked Souness: "So what does Klopp look like then when we talk about elite management, does he look like an elite manager?" To which the ex-Liverpool boss stated that he has been with Jordan retorting with: "by what standards?"

The Scotsman simply shut down his podcast colleague by saying "winning trophies" while discussing the financial disadvantages Klopp has faced during his nine years in Merseyside.

"He comes into a league where they have spent a fraction of the team to catch," Souness remarked. "At the same time, Manchester United and Chelsea have spent twice as much."
