Alan Shearer has aimed a cheeky jibe at Micah Richards after they discussed a cooking mishap with Gary Lineker on the trio's podcast.

Chewing the fat on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker, Richards and Shearer talked about arriving in Berlin for the start of the Euros last week and how ex- England striker Lineker decided to cook a meal for everyone on the Friday night – with mixed results. Richards referred to the ex- Leicester man's stuttering attempts to prepare a meal for 12 people in which the Match of the Day host tried to rustle up a veggie showstopper for everyone.

However it wasn't without its issues as Richards accused the ex- Everton striker of 'floundering' before Lineker blamed his dodgy equipment for the delay. A resulting smoke alarm then went off which forced Newcastle legend Shearer to chime in: "I wasn't sure what the alarm was, was it because of the fire alarm or because Micah opened his wallet."

The jab then caused the three pundits to break out in hysterics. Throughout Lineker and Richards' exchange, a clip is shown of the smoke alarm going off as Lineker tries to cook dinner in Berlin as former full-back Richards unleashes a barb at Lineker saying: "You were floundering for a good 30 minutes".

The BBC host attempted to defend himself saying: "I've got new equipment here and the oven doesn't function", before Richards added: "Oh so you're blaming your tools, interesting." Lineker then tried to support himself further saying: "I was struggling – the fire alarm went off three times because we couldn't work it out."

It's not the first time the podcast has caused a few headlines during the Euros with Lineker and Richards both discussing the BBC's rivalry with ITV on the latest edition of the pod.

The Match of the Day host taking aim at his competitors with a well-timed jab that will ensure the long running battle between the two channels. Richards queried Lineker over the rivalry but played down any hostility after alluding to his fellow pundits and friends working for ITV, saying: "We do like ITV though don't we? With Keano ( Roy Keane ) and Wrighty (Ian Wright) – we don't need to have that rivalry."

Lineker agreed and was highly complimentary about his long-standing rivals, but not before adding a brutal blow to guarantee the competition between the broadcasters remains as strong as ever. "They're really good," the former Everton forward said of ITV, before adding: "English television does football very well, ITV do it brilliantly – we do it slightly better."
