Who is Jill Biden's first husband, Bill Stevenson?

Bill Stevenson was born in 1948 and is a former college football player.

He was married to Jill Biden — who was born Jill Tracy Jacobs — from 1970 to 1975.

Stevenson and Jill worked together and founded the Stone Balloon, one of the most popular bars near the University of Delaware.

The bar was once called "the best-kept secret in rock and roll" by Rolling Stone, according to The List.

It featured popular acts like Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles, the Dave Matthews Band, and more.

According to the New York Post, Stevenson remarried following his divorce from Jill and "has a family of his own."

What has Jill Biden said about her first marriage?

Jill became the first lady of the US on January 20, 2021, when her husband Joe Biden was inaugurated.

A spokesperson for Jill told The Sun that the breakdown of her first marriage was a very painful time in her life.

"It's a shame that after 45 years, all of a sudden, this is being revisited," they added.

In a May 2022 interview with Harper's Bazaar, Jill told the outlet, "I believed so much in the institution of marriage. When the marriage fell apart, I fell hard because of that. And for him to turn out to be who he was …"

The experience taught her a great deal about herself and what she wanted for her future. "I knew I would never, ever put myself in that position again — where I didn't feel like I had the finances to be on my own, that I had to get the money through a divorce settlement," she said.

"I drummed that into [my daughter], Ashley: Be independent, be independent. And my granddaughters—you have to be able to stand on your own two feet."

What has Stevenson said about Joe and Jill Biden?

Stevenson told the Daily Mail in 2020 that Joe lied about how he fell in love with Jill.

He revealed he would be publishing a book that would "blow the lid off the sham story."

Stevenson claimed he and Jill met Joe and his then-wife Neilia in the Bidens' kitchen.

He also claimed he gave nearly $11,000 in cash to Joe's first campaign for Senate.

Stevenson told the Daily Mail that he suspected Joe and Jill were having an affair in 1974 after he asked Jill to go to Northern New Jersey with him to meet with Bruce Springsteen and she declined.

"She had things to do, she had to look after Joe's kids, Beau and Hunter," Stevenson said.

"It was kind of a big deal to go meet Springsteen. I had no idea she and Joe were that kind of friendly.

"Then one of her best friends told me she thought Joe and Jill were getting a little too close," he added.

"I was surprised that she came to me."

Two months later, Stevenson allegedly got confirmation of the affair after a man told him Jill and Joe had been driving together.

Stevenson spoke with the New York Post on June 29, 2024, questioning why his ex-wife is seemingly encouraging Joe to remain in the 2024 presidential race following his controversial debate against Donald Trump.

"The Dr. Jill Biden who I’ve seen on TV in the last five years is not the same person I married or that I recognize in any way," he said.

"She's matriculated into a completely different woman."

He continued, "I just don’t understand why she is so adamant about defending him and keeping him in the race since it appears that he's struggling.

"It appears that he's struggling with everybody these days.

"I've watched Jill grow.

"I've been proud of her at certain moments. I have no hard feelings … I'm just surprised to see her front and center in the middle of this battle after flying under the radar for so many years. She's always been very driven. People say she's the one who wants to be president now."

Per the New York Post, Stevenson wrote a 2005 book about the Stone Balloon, where Biden — who was running for the Senate at the time — stopped by one night in 1972.

According to the outlet, Stevenson later claimed that after telling Joe a humorous anecdote about his days playing prep school football, the now-president told the story two hours later to the club bouncers, whom he had just met.

"It makes me cringe every time he calls Trump a liar, because I'm telling you right now, there is no better liar than President Biden,” Stevenson, a Trump supporter, said.

"He's just a bad person. I'm probably one of the few people outside his family who has known him for 50 years."

Per the publication, Stevenson is self-publishing a second tome, titled The Bidens: The Early Years, in July 2024.

Though the book will not cover Joe today, Stevenson told the New York Post he has thoughts about the former's current state of mind.

"Look, I’m not a doctor or a psychiatrist but yeah, I felt he lost a step three or four years ago. Now I think it's more like a couple of steps. Do I feel badly for him? No, because he did some horrible things to me and my family," he said.
