Apparently, it's the season of the Rat Boy and the Rodent Boyfriend, but if you don't know what that means then you're not the only one.
The phenomenon is based on a viral tweet from 2023, that states: "Men are either eagle handsome, bear handsome, dog handsome, or reptilian handsome," and used Ryan Gosling, Henry Cavill, Heath Ledger, and Timothee Chalamet as examples of these different 'types' of man.
Considering the options, it's clear to see what they're discussing as there is undeniably something bear-like about Cavill's broad shoulders, while Ledger's blonde hair and wide grin are somewhat reminiscent of a golden retriever.
Discussing the trend on a recent episode of Today, presenters Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager waded in. "Hot, rodent boyfriend. Or a sexy rat men. They're one and the same," Hager clarifies. "If somebody comes up to you and says, 'Hey, sexy rat man,' they're also calling you a hot rodent boyfriend."
If you're not in the know, you probably didn't get your kicks from the movie Challengers, starring Zendaya, like the rest of the internet's thirst-trap enthusiasts. Men with rodent-like features, often more slender than muscular and with angular faces, are increasingly being seen as attractive.
Widow brings pillow with late husband's face on it to pub every New Year's EveThis unconventional attractiveness is exemplified by Challengers co-stars Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist, who have been compared to Roddy St James (the rat from Flushed Away) and Stuart Little, respectively.
Other examples of this unique attractiveness include Kieran Culkin, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Allen White, Logan Lerman, Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Matty Healy (who was the inspiration for the rat in Flushed Away), and Jack Schlossberg (JFK's grandson). Even Timmy Chalamet could be considered more weasel-like than lizard-like in retrospect.
Many people have also found themselves attracted to individuals with similar features on dating apps like Hinge. To clarify, being described as rodent handsome is not an insult. In fact, it's a compliment! It's more about the overall aura than physical attributes.

These men, with Matty Healy being a prime example, often embody the opposite of toxic masculinity. They're the type to surprise their girlfriends with extravagant bouquets of flowers and proudly share photos of their partners' Met Gala outfits on social media.
Unlike golden retriever boyfriends, rat-men are a bit odd but crucially, in a sexy, humorous way think Pete Davidson.
