A string of burglaries have targeted multi-million-pound homes featured in the hit television show Ted Lasso.

Four properties in Richmond, south west London, have been ‘targeted’ by thieves in November and December.

One of the homes targeted belonged to the character played by Hannah Waddingham, but thieves eventually ran away, residents said.

Another resident whose home was burgled included British rock star Richard Ashcroft of The Verve, who reportedly had more than £1,000,000 of goods stolen. He does not live in one of the properties featured on the show.

One neighbour said they called 999 after hearing the alarm going off in Ashcroft’s home, but the culprits had fled once police arrived at the scene.

‘The police would have stood a good chance of catching the gang if they turned up when called, but now the gang are free to find their next target. We’re all now living in fear,’ they told The Sun.

One resident told the Mail: ‘You don’t have to be to work out that someone from the gang probably watched the programme [Ted Lasso] at some point.

‘They must have realised the rich pickings to be had from the area.’

Detectives believe the break-ins were carried out by a gang of professional burglars from South America, The Sun reported.

Ted Lasso tells the tale of an American football coach who moves to Richmond Green, where he coaches the fictional team ‘AFC Richmond’.

Locals have said they believe the area was targeted after being featured on the show, where burglars noticed the high-end homes.

The culprits are believed to be a group of six, who come with crowbars. Four of the gang reportedly break in while the remaining two keep watch.

Detective Superintendent Dan O’Sullivan, of the Metropolitan Police, said: ‘We are aware of a number of burglaries in the Richmond Green area and are taking proactive steps to deter offenders and reassure residents.

‘Enquiries are ongoing. It is believed that some of the break-ins may be linked.’
