When did Marilyn Monroe die?

Marilyn Monroe tragically passed away on August 4, 1962, at the age of 36.

Marilyn is buried at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park.

Hundreds of spectators crowded the streets near the cemetery during her funeral.

Hugh Hefner purchased the crypt next to Marilyn so he could be buried close to the star.

Who were Marilyn Monroe’s husbands?

Marilyn had three husbands during her lifetime, James Dougherty (from 1942 to 1946), Joe DiMaggio (from 1954 to 1955), and Arthur Miller (from 1956 to 1961).

Growing up, Marilyn spent most of her time in foster homes.

She married her boyfriend Dougherty when she was just 16, but it was short-lived.

The marriage fizzled out as Marilyn started her modelling and acting career, after being discovered by a photographer when she was working in a munitions factory in California.

Her career started to take off in the 1950s and after starring in Gentleman Prefer Blondes and How To Marry A Millionaire in 1953, Marilyn quickly became one of the most sought-after A-listers of the time.

She married baseball great DiMaggio in January 1954 after a two-year romance.

The marriage only lasted nine months after reports of Joe’s jealousy and they divorced in October that year.

She then started dating playwright Arthur Miller, and their relationship became serious in 1955 after her divorce from Joe was finalised and Arthur had separated from his wife.

She wed Arthur in 1956 but things had turned sour by 1961, thanks to her increasing emotional fragility, and the pair soon after divorced.

When did Marilyn Monroe sing Happy Birthday, Mr President?

Marilyn serenaded President John F Kennedy to celebrate his 45th birthday on May 19, 1962.

The star shimmied on to the stage in a stunning tight-fitting gown, which sold at auction for a whopping $4.81million (£3.86million).

The 1962 performance was held at Madison Square Garden and lasted under 30 seconds, but made quite the impression on the 15,000 guests who watched.

It prompted rumours of an affair between Marilyn and the President, who was assassinated on November 22, 1963.
