COUNTRYFILE viewers have begged the BBC to make changes amid complaints the series is becoming "too repetitive" and "boring".

A long-standing nature series, Countryfile continued on Sunday evening with host Ellie Harrison marking the first recorded summit of Mount Everest.

Naturally, this became the running theme of the episode, with Ellie testing out endurance materials for clothing and talking about the advancement in technology for wannabe climbers and those tackling severe weather conditions.

She declared she was "pushing outdoor clothing to the limit with a series of punishing tests" with the exercise, later making walking boots and testing out a cryo chamber that dips to -40 degrees to see how she could handle it.

They later cut to a series of clips from Countryfile's own 34-year run, showcasing times the weather has proven challenging for them in the name of presenting the show.

Helen Skelton was also shown on one of her expeditions for the series.

However, viewers weren't best pleased that minutes into the episode airing, there were clips from previous episodes already being chipped in, causing them to say the episode felt like a "greatest hits reel" rather than something new.

Others complained the episode was also too focused on clothing than the actual nature of the show that viewers love.

"Of course Ellie will be doing a fashion segment," wrote one, while another added: "How does this program get away with constantly just rehashing bits from old shows?"

Another thought the show defeated its own purpose by showing Ellie climbing in incorrect gear, stating: "Why did Ellie appear to be wearing a non-waterproof jacket and jeans going up a mountain in the rain? While the programme promotes wearing the right clothing?"

While a fourth said: "Sorry #countryfile clips and boots on a robot. I'm off."

Another questioned: "No farming just more repeats and rock climbing and boot making?"

Next week, John Craven and Matt Baker will be taking over presenting duties for a special on "vanishing villages".

They will be heading to the east coast of England to find out how storms are devouring the coastline.

Adrian Chiles also rolls up his sleeves to find out what it takes to be a hill farmer.
