The jury in the Terry Sanderson versus Gwyneth Paltrow civil case heard on Thursday how the retired optometrist became "consumed" with trying to hold someone accountable for the injuries he sustained.

The trial entered its third day in Utah, as both sides argued against being the one who caused their ski collision in 2016.

Mr Sanderson is seeking damages of $300,000 (£246,000) for "a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries" in the civil lawsuit.

Ms Paltrow, meanwhile, has filed a counter-claim, in which she is seeking legal fees and damages of $1 (82p).

Mr Sanderson's daughter, Polly Sanderson-Grasham, was called upon to testify and told the court how she believed the skiing incident, and holding someone to account for what happened, had "consumed" her father, 76.

She said: "I think that with his brain injury, he really does become consumed with things, and righting this wrong for him has really consumed him and he wanted to make it right.

"He wanted someone to apologise, or acknowledge, or be held accountable for their decision on that date."

Elsewhere on day three of the trial, which is expected to last up to eight days, Ms Sanderson-Grasham described how her father was a "goer" and a "real positive influence", as well as being an experienced skier.

She said seeing the state of her father at his granddaughter's graduation around three months after the skiing crash had been like a "slap in the face".

"I felt like 'wow'. There was a moment when I almost expected drool to come out of his mouth," she said.

"He wasn't engaged with anyone... that was my first slap in the face that something is terribly wrong."

Ms Sanderson-Grasham added that her father could now not "see the forest for the trees" and got stuck "in the minutiae" of things.

"He's easily frustrated, she continued. "He gets agitated, angry - I didn't have a memory of him being an angry person but he's got a pretty short fuse these days.

"I think he's just a little more cautious, not as confident - he's in a really negative place, and that's hard for me as his daughter."

The trial continues.
