Meghan Markle's marriage into the Royal Family is "a fairy tale that went horribly wrong", claims Succession star Brian Cox.

The actor, who stars as Logan Roy in the hit HBO show, said he has "enormous sympathy" for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and described them as "victims".

Brian, 76, admitted he understands why Meghan would have been attracted to the Royal Family due to the "fairytale" image it portrays.

"I actually have enormous sympathy for them," Brian said in a new interview, referring to Harry and Meghan.

"They're the product of an institution which is moribund and shouldn't exist any more. But that's a difficult situation where she comes from, and it's understandable that she sees something – and it does look like a fairy tale.

"But it was a fairy tale that went horribly wrong."

Speaking to The Radio Times, Brian said he thinks Harry and Meghan are "victims" and that the Royal Family "fundamentally, in this day and age, doesn’t make any sense."

His latest comments come after he said Meghan "knew what she was getting into" when she married Prince Harry and joined the Royal Family.

"You can’t go into a system where somebody’s already been trained to behave in a certain kind of way and then just expect them to cut themselves off.

"I mean, she knew what she was getting into," he told Haute Living New York last month.

However, Brian has now said that his words were taken out of context.

Brian has been vocal about his criticism of the Royal Family and previously called for them to be abolished after the Queen's death.

Speaking to ES Magazine back in 2020, the actor praised Queen Elizabeth II as an "amazing woman", but said the monarchy "should go" when "she's gone" in order to end its "feudal hold on our culture".

Harry and Meghan uprooted their lives to move to California in 2020, where they now live with their two children - Prince Archie, three, and Princess Lilibet, one.

"Let's not beat about the bush, they have driven them out, and yes, I have no doubt at all, some of it is racist," he told The Independent.
