NETFLIX has announced Stranger Things is officially getting a spin-off series - but there's a major twist.
The streaming giant dropped the exciting news which has left fans polarised.
However, bosses have teased the new series will be completely animated.
Matt and Ross Duffer, who created the smash-hit show, released a statement confirming the news.
They said: "We've always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realised has been absolutely thrilling.

"We couldn't be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…"
Viewers have reacted with mixed emotions to the news, with one writing: "While some may be excited, we must consider if this is diluting the show's original essence and storytelling."
A second said: "How to overdo a series in one simple step."
"Maybe is just me, but once #StrangerThings ends, I'm really not interested in any spinoffs, even if animated and "fun"," said a third.
Meanwhile, fans have been shaken up as the producers of the show released a huge warning about season five.
The popular Netflix series' season four finale showed Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), and their friends dealing with the fallout from Vecna's (Jamie Campbell Bower) destruction in Hawkins.
As season five is the final one of the series, it is undoubtedly bittersweet for viewers everywhere.
Although the Duffer Brothers have tried to keep the plot under wraps, they have now revealed a major spoiler.
Taking to the official Stranger Things writers' account, a tweet read: "Season 5 is like if season 1 and 4 had a baby. The baby was then injected with steroids."
