GREAT British Menu fans have shared their shock after seeing the "ridiculous" kitchen the finalists had to cook in.

Viewers of the BBC2 show excitedly tuned in to see who would be crowned the winner but were all left with the same complaint within minutes.

They watched as finalists Tom Shepherd, Avi Shashidhara, Adam Handling and Nick Beardshaw were told they would be serving up a massive banquet at the glorious Brighton Pavilion.

But their joy quickly turned to disappointment after being shown where they would actually be preparing their huge feast.

The foursome were taken to the venue's 200-year-old kitchen, featuring an ancient six-hob burner, one oven and limited counter space.

Things then turned from bad to worse for Ravi, who was taken out of a back door by Great British Menu host Andi Oliver.

It was then explained he was not allowed to deep-fry his 400 crackers inside, so would have to do it outside under a tiny gazebo.

Taking to Twitter, fans were quick to share their anger at the kitchen provided for the finalists.

One moaned: "Providing 1 oven and a few hobs for 4 courses and 2 lots of canapes for a banquet. Ridiculous. Give them a venue with facilities!"

Another added: "That kitchen is ridiculous for this event...why even risk ruining one dish by not arranging for a larger one...or maybe one in an adjacent building that has good size..."

A third said: "Show them the epic room the guests will be in then put 4 chefs in a box sized kitchen and Avi in the car park..harsh."

And a fourth chimed in: "I thought this was about great food not how can we find the s******* kitchen in Britain, what a joke."

Despite the conditions, the four finalists rolled up their sleeves and cracked on with the job in hand.

They were tasked with making a banquet honouring British animation and illustration, as the Brighton Pavilion was formerly home to the University Of Brighton's school of art.

Authors and illustrators Cressida Cowell, Quentin Blake, Raymond Briggs and Sue Hendra are among the household names who studied there.

Nick opted for a fish course based on Stanley Donwood's artwork for Radiohead's 2016 album Moon Shaped Pool.

Avi cooked up a Gruffalo-themed starter, while Tom made a 'Desperate Dan Cow Pie' and Adam did a 'Food Fight' dessert.

The foursome impressed the crowd, made up of celebrities and top culinary bods, but it was Adam who triumphed and was crowed this year's Great British Menu winner.
