Optical retail chain Specsavers has brutally trolled Chelsea over their decision to pay out a mega-money fee of £87million for latest signing Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Blues hijacked Arsenal's move for the winger in stunning fashion on Saturday, quickly coming to an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk. The Gunners had long eyed a move for the Ukrainian, but saw several bids rejected before Chelsea swooped in.

With the Blues struggling under Graham Potter, they quickly pushed through a deal to sign Mudryk. To do so, they immediately agreed to pay out Shakhtar's £87m asking price, through a combination of an up-front fee and bonuses.

The 22-year-old flew out to England over the weekend and was present at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace. He was then presented to the crowd as Potter's side claimed a narrow win.

And as Mudryk took his first steps on the pitch at his new home, Specsavers delivered a brutal put-down of the deal. It tweeted: "Hi @chelseafc. Heard Arsenal are planning to buy 6,000,000 lens cloths from us. Just FYI."

Mudryk had long been linked with a move to Arsenal instead of the Blues, and even hinted that the Emirates Stadium would be his preferred destination. But after joining Chelsea, the winger insisted he was excited to get started.

He said: "This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career. I’m excited to meet my new team-mates and I’m looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff."

Mudryk watched on as Chelsea defeated Palace thanks to a goal from Kai Havertz just after the hour mark. Potter has now made five signings this month and is delighted to have beaten Arsenal to Mudryk's signature.

"He’s a young player with a big future. He has exciting quality in the final third, very fast and direct, attacks the backline, can go in wide areas but also affects the goal. He’s a really exciting player and I think our supporters will like him," the Chelsea boss said.

“We want to play better. We want more wins. You need a squad that’s balanced. You need a squad that’s got the right amount of competition. I think we’ve got to be not necessarily careful.

"But I think you’ve just got to understand that we’ve got about 10 players unavailable. Obviously you can’t just sign players to replace those because in the end, you have a squad of 30. You have to do the right thing and the window is complicated in January.”
