And the family have now launched an appeal to help with the cost of bringing their brother home.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Margueritte saying: "Hi sadly our brother died in Lanzarote yesterday and we're left with a bill of 6 and 10 thousand pounds in funeral fees.

"We are desperate to get him home asap, so I am writing this to reach out from my heart to help us bring him home."

The page has so far raised £1,455 to help bring him home.

Two friends of Rab are understood to have flown over to the island to try and help find him according to Glasgow Live.

It is unknown how he died but his family have thanked the public for their support.

People have been paying tribute to the Celtic fan with one saying: "So sorry to hear such sad news.

"Thinking of you all."

Another said: "Robert was one of the best.

"I have fond memories of us growing up together.

We previously told how his friend Paddy said the last time he saw Robert was two hours before the flight was due to leave as the pair had just checked in their luggage.

Paddy had then given Robert a napsack bag with money and his passport inside it which was the last time anyone has seen or heard from him.

According to the missing Scot's friends on social media, Police Scotland had confirmed to them that Robert's passport had been used to enter the country at Edinburgh airport.

He reportedly had decided to fly home early due to his friend Paddy taking unwell.

The pair were originally due to arrive back in Scotland on May 16, but had decided to pay extra to get an earlier flight home.

An FCDO spokesperson said:“We are providing consular assistance to the family of a British man who has died in Lanzarote”
