Nina, 42, shared a short film with BBC Breakfast viewers to give an insight into what caring for someone with dementia is like.

After picking up her dad Chris from his care home, with it taking an hour to get him up and ready, the father and daughter then headed to Costa Coffee.

Nina explained that she didn't like to assume what her dad wanted to have, wanting to give him the freedom to make decisions on his own.

The sweet moment was captured as the two chatted about the offerings on display before ordering their things.

However, Nina revealed there are often tough moments when people who are not in the know get frustrated by her dad.

Recalling one particular tough moment, the soon-to-be mum-of-three said she once saw a woman roll her eyes at them when her father struggled to pay at a till.

Sitting down with their breakfast, Nina told the camera: "We have always been a family obsessed with food, sitting and sharing.

"I want my dad to be able to choose his own lunch and use his own money for as long as possible, I think that is really important.

"We have had some brilliant experiences."

This is shown as a waiter is seen coming over to ask if Nina's dad wants more sugar, and patiently waiting for his decision.

She continued: "But we have had some horrible moments, I remember a supermarket worker rolled her eyes at us because it was taking a while at the till.

"It is hurtful and it does knock your confidence.

"There are millions of us doing our very best to live alongside this and actually, everyone can do a little bit to make these shared spaces feel like a comfortable place to be.

"Every time someone engages, instead of turning away, every time someone gives us the space to take out time, it helps us to feel like we still belong."

After breakfast, Nina and her father enjoyed their drive home together listening to music.

The BBC news presenter regularly gives important insights into having a loved one who has a form of dementia.

Earlier this year she shared a series of snaps that reminded her of when the illness first started to take hold.

The morning breakfast presenter posted a series of black and white images to her Instagram yesterday to highlight a milestone.

She said on social media: "Phone reminded me it's 3 years today since the Covid bubbles came in - allowing people living alone to join another household.

"I remember this day so clearly! Dad coming for tea, me crying, him remembering quite quickly that tiny kids are actually quite annoying and stealthily sliding out at bath time [laughing emoji]."

She continued: "As lockdown went on, we didn't realise it was dementia, rather than isolation, impacting his confidence and capacity to make decisions, and that he'd never really recover."

BBC Breakfast airs every day from 6am on BBC One.
