But the fan favourite couple encounter another hurdle tonight in Emmerdale - can they overcome it?
The village vet played by Dominic Brunt confessed his love to Mandy (Lisa Riley) after she'd made plans to leave the Dales altogether.
Mandy was the first to admit she still harboured feelings for Paddy but she didn't want to get in the way of his recovery from depression.
But after finally agreeing to give their relationship another go, the couple made the romance official in the Woolpack... right in front of Paddy's estranged wife Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).

The pub manager was upset to see Paddy move on with Mandy but she has no clue that, behind closed door, the chemistry is somewhat off balance.
During last night's trip to the eponymous village, Paddy dismissed Mandy's advances - and his behaviour begins to play on her mind.
Tonight on ITV, Mandy and Paddy are feeling the pressure of the village’s eyes on their relationship.
And when Mandy asks him to stay the night, Paddy deters her with further excuses.
At Rhona Goskirk’s (Zoe Henry) nail appointment, Mandy confesses her worries about hers and Paddy’s lack of intimacy.
But she's soon comforted when Rhona offers a fresh perspective.
Although Rhona is happily married to Marlon Dingle, she was also once romantically involved with Paddy Kirk.
