CHRIS Packham has been hailed as the new David Attenborough for his new BBC show, but for some, it was difficult to watch for one reason.

Earth is a five-part BBC series led by Chris, who tells the four-billion-year story of planet Earth "from its dramatic creation to the arrival of human life... and whatever's next".

Episode one Inferno aired last night, with episodes dropping each Monday or are available now on iPlayer for bingers.

Inferno saw Chris Packham exploring one of the darkest periods in Earth's history with the worst mass extinction known to the planet, resulting in the death of 90% of all species.

Chris' presenting style during the show's first outing earned him high praise from many viewers, but the sound and lighting were distracting for others.

A viewer commented: "Chris Packham's #Earth very good - except the music is driving me a bit nuts. Too dramatic and corny, and distracting all at once. But thanks for everything else about it."

Fighting through the music, another viewer said: "Great programme - shame about the music - not needed and detracts from everything else."

An onlooker replied: "I so agree if only we could at the very least turn the volume of the music down."

It was the lighting for another who added: "Loved the first episode, I found some of the flashing images a little much, I don't know if it would affect someone with epilepsy, but great program all the same."

Despite those technical setbacks a very impressed spectator said: "On the basis of the 1st episode of #Earth, I think Chris Packham has passed his audition to be the next David Attenborough."

He could be the next wildlife and nature go-to specialist with another declaring: "#Earth @ChrisGPackham taking the throne from Sir David Attenborough! Bravo!"

Other episodes in the season are called Snowball, Green, Atmosphere and Human.

Earth continues on BBC Two on Monday, or is available to stream on iPlayer.
