Leroy Sane's stance on Klopp clear with "honest" claim amid Liverpool links

Bayern Munich ace Leroy Sane is the subject of interest from Liverpool and the Germany international has already revealed what he thinks of Jurgen Klopp.

The former Manchester City man has been plying his trade at the Allianz Arena since the summer of 2020 and has had no trouble showcasing the kind of quality he boasts in the Bundesliga. However, after three years at the Bavarians Sane is now being linked with a return to the English top-flight, only this time he'll be donning the red of Liverpool rather than the blue of City.

During his time at the Etihad, Sane amassed quite a haul of trophies. Two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three League Cups and two Community Shields later and he'd returned to Germany, though his exit came as a surprise to some who felt Pep Guardiola had made a mistake in letting him leave.

City had to fight off a number of clubs just to sign him, including Liverpool, who held talks with Sane but ultimately failed in their efforts to secure his signature. That is not to say Klopp didn't make an impression on the wide-forward, who admitted he thinks highly of the German coach.

Asked by the Guardian whether Liverpool had indeed tried to get to him while he was still at Schalke and on his way out, Sane explained: "Yes, I was also talking with them. Jurgen was calling me too, talking to me. That was before I joined City."

It was Sane's comments shortly after that may now spark some attention from the Anfield faithful given the Reds are interested, as exclusively revealed by Mirror Football. The 27-year-old, who will turn 28 during the next January transfer window, sung the praises of Klopp's character.

"He did a good job at [Borussia] Dortmund – I met him when he was there. He's a good guy, nice guy – honest. He [has] worked well with Liverpool."

The comments certainly seem to suggest Sane would have no issue plying his trade under Klopp, who is already plotting Liverpool's next moves in terms of transfer. Any switch is certainly not going to come cheap from the Reds perspective, particularly as the former City star has enjoyed his best start to a season since making the move to Munich.

Across all competitions, Sane boasts seven goals in 11 appearances this term. That is almost certainly going to drive the Geman's price tag up, though Liverpool may still be willing to pay with the money generated from high-profile outgoings.

Sane's current Bayern contract sees him tied to the club until the summer of 2025. It is likely that an exit would come as soon as this summer, while the German giants aren't in a position to be bullied into selling on the cheap. Liverpool are waiting in the wings.
