It's not the only Batman filming location in the UK either with a major city used to double up as Gotham

FILM buffs might not know about it, but a piece of movie history can be found hidden away in the countryside in the UK.

A deep gorge in the Brecon Beacons national park in Wales is home to a waterfall that is known as "Batman's Waterfall" after it featured in Christopher Nolan's hit film The Dark Knight Rises.

Henrhyd Falls was used as the secret entrance to the Batcave, a hidden dwelling where Batman stores his gadgets, suits and many vehicles.

However, the falls would be spectacular enough had they not been used by the caped crusader, with their 90ft drop making them the highest single drop falls in the park.

Fortunately for film fans, the National Trust, who are in charge of the falls made a series of improvements a few years ago, including installing a series of steps and a 40-metre boardwalk, to make it easier to reach.

At the time, Judith Harvey, wardens manager for Brecon Beacons national park authority, told The Guardian: “There has been a steady increase in visitors to the Nant Llech Trail and Henrhyd waterfall making it a popular walking destination in the Brecon Beacons.

"With work now complete, it means that people for many generations to come can really enjoy what Abercraf and the surrounding area has to offer."

The Nant Llech Trail takes visitors along a scenic trail through the Nant Llech Gorge, which passes by several smaller waterfalls en route to the main attraction.

Once there, visitors can walk along a path that winds its way behind the waterfall, but Explore South Wales recommends taking "extreme care" when doing this.

While some film locations can be a bit of a letdown when visiting them in person, that doesn't appear to be the case with Henrhyd Falls, with Far Out magazine recommending a trip.

They wrote: "Filming sites may just be plain boring without Hollywood A-listers prancing around in the foreground. But this, I’m pleased to announce, doesn’t apply to Henrhyd Falls.

"It’s a truly unmissable natural feature. Had Nolan not come across it when planning his Batman bow-out, I would still be here urging you to behold this striking water feature."

They aren't the only ones to vouch for it as an attraction either, with UK Hidden Gems (@ukhiddengems) sharing footage of it on Tiktok.

They captioned the video: "Henrhyd Falls is the tallest waterfall in South Wales, dropping 27 meters. But this isn't what it's famous for; rather, it's for serving as The Dark Knight Rises' Batcave entrance in the Batman films.

"Batman's Cave is the perfect place to enjoy nature. The paths at Henrhyd Falls are beautiful to walk along whilst breathing in that fresh Welsh air listening to the gushing sound of the waterfall."

One of their followers had already been there in search of their favourite superhero, but unfortunately found no sign.

They commented: "I’ve been there. Couldn’t find the Batmobile though."

It's not the only place in the UK where Batman blockbusters have been filmed, with Liverpool also hosting the hero.

The city regularly doubles up as American locations on the big screen and was used for fictional metropolis Gotham in The Batman, featuring Robert Pattinson.

The Liver Building and St George’s Hall both featured in the 2022 flick.

Meanwhile, these UK locations have all featured in Disney movies.

And you can watch thousands of films for free in this little-known UK attraction.
