After 33 years since their smash hit became an instant classic, the enigmatic indie icon of the 90s looks utterly unrecognisable, after a remarkable transformation.

The La’s frontman looks drastically different in a very rare social media appearance.

Lee Maver has pretty much been a recluse since the band entered a prolonged hiatus in 1992 - just two years after the band found global fame.

The band briefly reunited on a handful of occasions, the final time being in 2011.

Since then, Liverpool born Lee has rarely been seen in public until now.

A rare sighting of him came as a recent snap of him circulated on Instagram earlier this month.

In the snap, which was shared by Lighting Boltz custom action figures, the indie icon can be seen smiling for the camera as he holds up two customised figures of himself.

The singer looks completely different from his time with the band as he shows off a huge bushy beard.

The reclusive singer, who attempted to keep a low profile as he wore his hood up, has also grown his hair out longer, although he has still kept it in a floppy style.

Fans were thrilled at Lee’s rare appearance, with many taking to the comments section to express their joy.

One commented: “Great to see Lee looking happy.”

While another penned: “The Scouse unicorn gracing us with his presence. Briefly. As is his want.”

A third added: “Enigma mate.”

And a fourth said: “Great to see Lee smiling there.”

The La’s were an English rock band from Liverpool and formed in 1983.

The four-piece - who went on to have various line ups - scored their biggest hit “There She Goes” in 1990.

The band then went on to have another hit with “Timeless Melody”, before shocking fans when they announced they were going on an indefinite hiatus in 1992.

They briefly reunited in 2005 and again in 2011. The band also featured fellow Liverpool Indie legend John Power of 90s rockers Cast.
