Glastonbury line-up rumours spread as bookies say US star is tipped to headline

Glastonbury Festival might see a big US rock star on the Pyramid Stage next summer.

The chances of Bruce Springsteen returning to the world-famous event have increased today (October 31) after he announced new tour dates. Bookies now give "The Boss" 4/1 odds (implied probability of 20 per cent) to just 1/2 (implied probability of 66.7 per cent).

This sudden change comes as the 74-year-old announces new tour dates. He will head to the UK and Ireland with his E Street Band in May and July, reports Somerset Live. Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band are now the most likely headliners of Glastonbury Festival 2024, according to bookmakers.

They are not currently playing any shows on the weekend of the Somerset event, which takes place between June 26 and June 30. "The Boss" has played Glastonbury Festival before, headlining the Pyramid Stage in 2009. He also joined Paul McCartney as a special guest in 2022.

Dua Lipa, Madonna, Coldplay and Pink are also favoured highly by bookmakers. Leon Blackman from Oddschecker said: "All change at the top of the betting market for the Pyramid Stage headliner at Glastonbury Festival 2024 this morning."

"Following the announcement of four tour dates in Ireland in mid-May 2024, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band are now the outright favourites to headline Glastonbury. This betting market will be one to watch with tickets being released later this week."

Emily Eavis, appearing on the BBC podcast Sidetracked, hinted that the line-up for the five-day event in June is still "a little up in the air". She added that she hopes there will be two female headliners. Eavis did not reveal any identities but said the representatives for a "really big American artist" had recently reached out.

Fans also hope Oasis, or at least Liam Gallagher, will make an appearance as he launches his Definitely Maybe tour. There is a gap in his schedule over the Glastonbury weekend, making fans hopeful the band will be there.

Eavis also revealed that she is hoping to release the line-up in the new year after tickets go on sale next week to avoid an influx of fans attending for one artist. Festival-goers for the 2024 event will be charged £355 plus a £5 booking fee for standard tickets, with £75 as a deposit and the balance due by the first week of April.

The cost of tickets for the event has risen by £20 from this year's price of £335, plus a £5 booking fee. Fans can buy coach and ticket packages for the 2024 festival from November 2, with standard tickets going on sale from November 5.
