Drying clothes when the freezing winter weather hits is a chore most Brits dread - especially when you're trying to avoid whacking them in the tumble dryer.

With bills skyrocketing, people are on the hunt for savvy ways to dry clothes without using energy - and one new tip is leaving people mind-blown.

The trick is so easy that people "feel silly" for not thinking of it sooner - after one cleaning fan revealed all on social media. The TikToker who goes by the name @GeoCleans shared the video of his clothes hanging on a clothes dryer in his room. He wrote alongside the video: "Drying clothes in winter is a pain, hopefully this will help!"

Geo started the video off and said: "If you rely on drying your clothes on a clothes horse listen up." He explained you need just one item most people already have at home to speed up the process. "Instead of waiting hours for your clothes to dry, use a desk top fan," he revealed.

Geo then explained that a desktop fan will help "circulate" the air in the room and further detailed: "By circulating the air, you reduce the humidity around the clothes which dries your clothes even faster and you'll never have to deal with foisty smelling clothes again." He also claimed it's cheap to do, saying: "I've got a smart meter and can confirm the fan uses less than 2p per hour. A drier is around 17p."

He also advised that if you position your fan above a radiator you'll "blow the warm air" towards your clothes. People were quick to hail this trick, as one TikTok user wrote: "Thanks, just moved in to my new flat and having to use an airer. I'll have to do this next time especially with winter coming," and another added: "Never thought of this! I feel so silly. Thanks."

However others penned their alternative methods that work, as one cleaning fan added: "A dehumidifier is better if you can afford one! we use one to control the bathroom steaming up, and it's a lifesaver for drying clothes quick indoors," and another echoed: "What you need to buy is a dehumidifier. They also come with a clothes drying setting and can be left on 24/7 and very cheap to run. Cheaper and safer."
