The BBC Two quiz show is hosted by Jeremy Paxman who asks the questions.
But Lyon kept curling his hair while he was thinking about the answers.
University Challenge fans seriously distracted by contestant's outfitViewers took to Twitter to share their frustration over the youngster's annoying habit.
One said: "Someone tell Lyon he's an adult and to stop twiddling his hair!! #UniversityChallenge."
Another wrote: "LEAVE IT #UniversityChallenge."
A third penned: "Lyon’s hair pulling is giving me second hand anxiety."
This comes after Jeremy Paxman has announced he’s to hang up his question cards and call it a day, following a diagnosis with Parkinson's Disease.
The last programme will be broadcast later this year and will be the final of the 52nd series.
Jeremy also presented the BBC’s flagship politics programme Newsnight for 25 years, before retiring in 2014.
Journalist and presenter Amol Rajan will be taking over as question master in University Challenge later this year.
Amol was appointed as editor of The Independent newspaper from June 2013, serving for a period at editor-at-large when the title became an online-only in 2016.
He then became the BBC's Media Editor from December 2016-January 2023 and has been a presenter on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 since 2021.

He’s a familiar face on television, with multiple appearances on Channel 5’s The Wright Stuff and BBC’s The One Show.
He has stood in for several holidaying BBC radio hosts, including Simon Mayo, Jeremy Vine and Zoe Ball.
University Challenge continues Monday at 8:30pm on BBC Two.
