Benedict is perhaps best known for his role as the titular character Sherlock in the hit 2010 BBC adaptation, alongside co-stars Martin Freeman and Andrew Scott.

Adjoa Andoh

Bristol-born actor Adjoa Andoh, known for her role as Lady Danbury in Bridgerton, will narrate the television adaptation.

Also starring in Mog’s Christmas will be:

  • Miriam Margolyes will play an aunt
  • Maggie Steed, as another aunt
  • Zawe Ashton, is one of Mog’s neighbours, Mrs Gaynor,
  • Charlie Higson is the Jolly Uncle
  • Gareth Berliner plays the Chestnut Seller
  • Amelie Law and Teddy Skelton are playing children Debbie and Nicky.
  • Tacy Kneale, Judith Kerr’s daughter, will voice Mog’s purrs and miaows

In Mog’s Christmas, Mr and Mrs Thomas and their children Debbie and Nicky are preparing for Christmas, leaving Mog feeling ignored — before long, the family are wondering what to do as Mog finds herself in a sticky situation.

The beloved cat, Mog, first appeared in Kerr’s first book ‘Mog the Forgetful Cat’ in 1970.

The festive adaptation will be brought to life by the same team that made Channel 4’s The Tiger Who Came to Tea, also based on a book by Judith Kerr.

On our screens to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Judith Kerr’s birth, ‘Mog’s Christmas’ will be a hand-drawn animation.

Before her death, Judith wrote more than 30 books and sold millions of copies worldwide.

Mog was based on the Kerr family cat.

When Judith wrote her final Mog book in 2002, Goodbye, Mog, she said:  “Drawing all those stripes became very tedious. I wished sometimes I’d made her a plain-coloured cat.”

In 2015, Mog found herself on television for the first time, in a Sainsbury’s Christmas TV advert.

When is Mog’s Christmas on Channel 4 this Christmas?

Mog’s Christmas will air on Christmas Eve at 7.45 pm on Channel 4.

The show will last approximately half an hour, until 8:15 pm.

It will then be available to watch on catch-up.
