POLAR PRINCESS is hot to trot in the opener at Newcastle (4.24, Nap) today.
The four-year-old, trained by Philip Kirby, has been a close runner-up on her last two starts, the latest at the end of last month when keeping on well under Hollie Doyle to be beaten just half a length behind Ocean Heights at Kempton over a mile and a half.
Previously to that she was a neck second to King Viktor over a mile and six furlongs at Southwell.
The daughter of Ulysses is back to a trip of just over a mile and a half today and could take all the beating in the Build Your Acca With Bet Uk Handicap, with Doyle again taking the ride.
Scottish trainer Lucinda Russell invariably has success at Ayr and her LADY IN THE PARK (3.55, nb) can land the Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Handicap Hurdle.
The former Irish point-to-point winner was third on her hurdling debut over two miles at Uttoxeter in November behind Little Miss Dante and Party Vibes.
The latter has subsequently franked the form by winning at Wincanton.
My selection then seemed to relish the step up in trip to nearly two and a half miles on heavy ground at Wetherby when finishing well to see off Dontyawantme in a novice hurdle on Boxing Day.
Russell sends her over three miles today and the extra distance is expected to suit her even more.
