AN UNSOLD underground reservoir that nearly featured on Channel 4’s hit series Grand Designs is due a 'one-of-a-kind dream home' transformation.

The plot of land in Staffordshire was due to be transformed into a work of art for Kevin McCloud's property series.

The Channel 4 host once even took his camera crew and visited the Reservoir in Alsager, which was due to be converted into a glamorous four-bedroom family home.

Unfortunately, the project never aired on Grand Designs after it was abandoned following a year of groundwork.

In 2019, contractors were given the go-ahead to lay the foundations for the luxury dream home on Ridley Reservoir.

After being given the green light in 2019, foundations had already been laid for a luxury property on Ridley Reservoir, which backs onto Alsager golf course and is surrounded by open countryside.

Since then, the property has failed to sell at auction even though it was the focus of an ambitious development project which would see the run-down site converted into a luxurious modern mansion.

Earlier this year, the owners placed the unfinished project on the housing market for £850,000, but no one has placed any bids as of yet.

On Monday, the development went under the hammer for a value of £600,000, but the 24-hour online auction ended the day after, on January 23, with no buyers.

Speaking on the project, ahead of the auction, a spokesman for Auction House Cheshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire said: “This is a project for someone with incredible vision, boasting over 8000 square meters of property.

“Set in rural part of Alsager with extensive views, it has development potential perfect for a builder/developer or home owner looking for their family home to make their own.”

In the 1960s, the reservoir was shut down, but in March 2019, it was reopened, and planning permission was awarded for a luxury four-bedroom property.

The current owner has set the foundations for an 8,000-square-metre build and has already removed the walls and driveway from the original landscape.

The new scheme includes living space in the refurbished buried water tank, a new swimming pool, a cinema and a roof terrace.

The property listing did not state how much it would cost to complete the project of the planned house, but the current images show an abandoned, unlivable underground ex-industrial plot with damp concrete floors and exposed breezeblock walls.

On last week’s Grand Designs spin-off show, homeowners were ripped into by viewers for turning their property into an all-white home, despite having a toddler.

The couple on Grand Designs Transformations spent £522,000 redesigning their family house in Sydney.
