RADIO 1 anchor Greg James left fans in tears after his kind-hearted gesture saw him give up his Brit Awards tickets.

Instead, the popular DJ spent his Saturday night babysitting a listener's adorable daughter in Swansea while her mum headed to London's O2 Arena.

Greg, 31, explained the situation in a lengthy Instagram video filmed when he was walking his dog.

He told how engaged Charlie and Meg were "two of our favourite listeners ever" after starring on Breakfast Show segment 'Whats my age again?'

He dubbed the pair the "real life Gavin and Stacey" due to their locations in Essex and Swansea yet it was only when Charlie told how he proposed to Meg when she was making hot dogs when Greg's plan took shape.

In his video he explained: "I have given them my tickets, both of them and I said wouldn't it be funny if we did a life swap?

"You come down to London and go to the Brits have a great night out, stay over or whatever and I will go to Swansea and do whatever you would do on a Saturday.

"And that involves looking after their seven-year-old daughter Maisie so I will be babysitting Maisie, taking her out for the afternoon shopping or whatever and watching the Brits later."

Greg then captured his day entertaining the schoolgirl in a series of sweet images, showing them building a playhouse and enjoying manicures.

After a trip to the park Greg was tasked with his own chores list before he took selfies with Maisie and settled down for the show.

In his caption, he wrote: "Brits day! Welcome to the alternative coverage which will be from Swansea!"

Proud mum Meg replied: "And we are forever grateful thank you so much.

"We'll make sure the heating is on for you to warm up. Maisie is very excited!"

Later on, she wrote: "Our baby girl has had an absolute blast! And so have we!!

"What an absolutely incredible night with life long memories!

"We are forever grateful, you a true gent @greg_james."

Fans were left equally touched by the host's kind-hearted nature.

One added: "I've never been invested in someone's evening as much as this," as another wrote: "This is so cute."

A third added: "This is the best thing ever. Like. I don’t care what happens at this Brits. This should be a Pixar film of some sort. Amazing scenes."

One then concluded: "Greg, you are an absolute beacon of light, please never change! The best nonsense ever."

Whether watching from London or Swansea, Greg and his new pals saw singer Raye, 26, make history by bagging six gongs on the night
