Susannah Constantine has shared that she contemplates her mortality every day after undergoing drastic surgery last year.

The 61-year-old former What Not To Wear host was rushed to hospital last year after suffering from arteriovenous fistula - a form of oversized vein that can lead to health issues including bleeding, swelling, infection and reduced blood supply to parts of the body. The TV star has previously explained that the surgery she underwent saved her life - and has also previously said the surgery left her feeling anxious.

Appearing on Loose Women on Friday, Susannah shared an update on her health - explaining that she is feeling better but does consider her mortality more regularly. She also hinted her health scare has given her a new prospective on life.

She said: “I feel fine. I mean, I did have this mental, this sort of weird neurological disorder and it was life threatening, but you just kind of think, well at my age anyway, you just take these things on board. I think that is one of the huge benefits of getting older.

“You're less fearful in some ways and although I do think about my mortality most mornings when I wake up, I'm cool about it. I'm in a really happy place. Life is so simple and I'm essentially, I'm primarily a wife and a mother, a housewife who happens to work and that's exactly how I like it.”

Last month, Susannah opened up about the fact she underwent surgery after being warned she was at risk of being left paralysed or of suffering a brain haemorrhage. The surgery came with risks, however, as she was warned she could be left with hearing issues. She said: "The penny dropped when I realised I couldn’t differentiate between the different birds singing.

"I live in the countryside and it’s something I love to listen to, because I wake up in the morning, every morning, filled with anxiety, and I go outside and I listen to the bird song," she told The Sun. Speaking to The Mirror last year, Susannah told us: "Ambient noise is awful. I wasn’t able to hear the person sitting next to me. I’d become an amateur lip reader, but if I couldn’t see someone’s face, I had no idea what they were saying. It was embarrassing.”

And discussing her need for surgery further, she told OK! magazine back in February: "They said 'It's Hobson's Choice, if you don't have the operation, you've got a one in three chance of having a brain haemorrhage, being paralysed or having a stroke. If you do have surgery, you've got a one in 10 chance of these same things happening during the operation'."

Last year, Susannah revealed she had been rushed to hospital and shared a snap of herself getting treatment via social media. She shared a photo of her arm with an IV needle injected into it while she was laying in a hospital bed. She wrote online at the time: “Withered arm turned out to be a symptom of something a bit more serious. All sorted now thanks to our ailing but still magnificent NHS where we are lucky enough to have some of the most gifted doctors (and in this case neurosurgeons) in the world. @brainandspine. Forever grateful."
