A WOMAN has admitted she never realised how much shoplifting goes on until she worked at Tesco.

Hannah is now a theatre star, currently starring in Six the Musical in London's West End.

But before TikTok brought her talent to the masses, she worked in Tesco - sharing stories from behind the scenes in the supermarket.

And Hannah decided to relive some of her time at Tesco in a recent TikTok video, as she revealed some of her craziest stories from the job.

"I must have lived a very sheltered life because when I first started working at Tesco I had no idea how many people shoplifted!" she said.

Calling it "absolutely wild", Hannah said that staff were instructed not to chase down shoplifters - who would literally come into the store, fill a basket full of produce and walk out without paying.

One of the worst, and most traumatic, things Hannah had to deal with was when someone stole something directly out of her hands.

It was when she was working at the tills, and someone came up and asked for two large packs of tobacco.

She scanned the man's shopping and the tobacco, and told the man his total before he "put his hands under the plastic grabs the two packets out my hands and sprinted".

Hannah's initial reaction was "just to scream", so she did, but he was "long gone".

She added that it felt like "a violation" that £100 worth of products had been snatched out of her hands

"But I'm so glad I didn't try and grab onto it or try and fight the man for it because he could have been dangerous," she added.

Following the incident, the manager at Hannah's store introduced a new policy which meant staff held onto the products bought behind the till until the payment had gone through.

"I also worked there and got knocked out by a shoplifter - Tesco didn’t even care," one person commented on the video.

"Oh nooo I’m so sad that happened!" Hannah replied.

"Some of our staff members actually did get into fights with them, but I stayed out of it LOL."

"I worked at Sainsbury's once and someone stole a trolley full of £200 worth of products!" another added.

"Worked in an express 2020/21 and I was also so shocked at the amount of shoplifting, couldn't believe it!" a third admitted.
