Whilst Sally Nugent was present and correct the same could not be said for her usual right-hand man, Jon Kay, 54.

Sally, 52, and Jon are paired together to host the Monday-Wednesday editions of the Beeb's morning offering with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty filling the role on Thursday-Saturday.

However, Jon was nowhere to be seen on the show and no explanation appeared to be offered up for his mysterious absence.

Instead, it was BBC Breakfast regular Ben Thompson that was drafted to cover in the wake of the surprise absence.

43-year-old Ben is no stranger to hosting the show and has undertaken the role a slew of times in the past.

He has replaced Jon on two further separate occasions during the course of the last two months.

Away from the programme, Ben has been known to whip his fans into a frenzy by sharing a slew of sexy gym photos.

The breakfast TV hunk had fans hot under the collar recently thanks to showing off his muscles in tight gym attire during a steamy session with fellow BBC journalist Lizzie Simmons.

Despite his no-show, Jon did appear on the programme yesterday where he led the show's latest "car crash" interview.

Fans were left reaching for the remote when MP Kemi Badenoch made a disaster appearance on the show.

Among one of the topics she was probed on was tech tycoon Frank Hester's "racist" comments about MP Diane Abbot.

Despite last week branding the comments as racist, Ms Badenoch  came under fire this morning for telling Jon to "move on" with his questioning as she insinuated it was "old news".
