TWO men are being treated for serious injuries after a light aircraft crashed near to a busy Scots airport sparking a major emergency response.
Members of the public have been warned to avoid the area after a plane went down in a field near Glasgow Prestwick Airport at around 4.10pm this afternoon.
Police, fire and an air ambulance all scrambled to the scene near the Ayrshire village of Monkton.
Specialist heavy rescue equipment have also been sent to the area.
The plane is understood to have crashed on private land.

A 65-year-old and 75-year-old were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by air ambulance to be treated for serious injuries.
Flight radar images show the aircraft circling the area before going down near a field close to the A77 Prestwick Bypass.
The roads around the scene of the crash have been locked down as emergency crews deal with the ongoing incident.
The A719 was closed at the B739, Monkton for around three hours while mercy crews attended.
Roads were reopened at around 7.30pm this evening.
Cops said last night that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.10pm on Tuesday, 23 April, 24 we received a report that a small aircraft having crashed in a field near to the A719 at Monkton.
“Emergency. services attended and two men aged 65 and 75 were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by helicopter for treatment to serious injuries.
"The A719 was closed at the B739, Monkton and re-opened around 7.30pm.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.05pm on April 23 to reports of a crash involving a small aircraft near Monkton, Prestwick.
“Control mobilised two appliances and heavy rescue equipment to the scene where crews remain in attendance.”
Prestwick Airport has been approached for comment.
