Garden Rescue host Charlie Dimmock split from her long-term partner after her affair came to light.

The presenter and gardening expert is the host of brand new BBC show Garden Rescue but she became a household name presenting Ground Force between 1997 and 2005. Alan Titchmarsh and Tommy Walsh presented Ground Force alongside Charlie, with the show drawing in 12million viewers at its peak.

During her time on the show, in 2001, she and her long-term partner John Mushet split after it emerged she'd had an affair with a co-star. The now-57-year-old had an affair with microphone operator Andy Simmons.

She split shortly after the affair and admitted a year later that she "doesn't see Andy anymore". Speaking in 2002, she said: "But I don't regret what happened. You wouldn't do anything if you kept worrying about what might go wrong.

"John and I had been together for a long time so when we split up, I relied heavily on family and close friends. I've discovered that the most difficult after-effect of the break-up is getting into another relationship."

Charlie went on to date another member of Ground Force's team, a sound technician called Barry Smith. The presenter was later hit with tragedy while filming the final year of the BBC show when her mother and stepfather died in Thailand's Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004.

At the time, Charlie's agent said in a statement: "It is very upsetting for her. It has been too soon for her to come to terms with it. She is coping day by day at the moment. We have promised her that we will protect her."

The presenter moved away from TV work for the following two years before branching out into acting with a stint in the 2010 touring production of Calendar Girls. She has now returned to BBC screens with Garden Rescue where she competes to create the perfect outdoor spaces for homeowners across the UK alongside Flo Headlam, Chris Hull, and Lee Burkhill.

Back in 2019, Charlie explained why despite helping transform gardens for two decades. she won't show off her own garden. She told the Express: "Firstly I have to say my garden isn't always in tip-top condition.

“Unfortunately I tend to be away working at the more critical busy times (spring and summer) so I often get behind. With all gardens, it's best to do maintenance frequently and regularly that way you actually make the maintenance easier.”

She added: “I’m going to try and make my garden look good because I’ve been doing this so long, it looks like a disaster area!”
