A man has discovered a rural ghost town which has seen a sharp decline of residents - with a population of only ten people left.

Dave, who is best known online as ‘Freaktography’, stumbled across the radio silent site in Canada. The community of Kayville is said to have been a bustling area and joins other towns that were abandoned in the 20th century. The explorer, from Ontario, said he was shocked to discover the forgotten area, which is believed to have seen a population decline after it was hit by an economic shift.

The town is said to have been left behind when transportation for larger areas were prioritised. Dave explained to his 90,500 YouTube subscribers how schools closed and the railway was taken away. He compared the devastating scenes to the once thriving community which had a population of over 100 in the 1970s.

He said: "Kayville is known to be one of many ghost towns in the province of Saskatchewan because all of the buildings, schools and most of the homesteads are vacant and no one lives there anymore. Like other rural towns in Saskatchewan, Kayville has declined dramatically. The farm economy went down and with no money to be made the population dropped, schools closed, the grain elevator shut down and the railway was taken away. In 1970, the community's population was over 100. Today, the population has dropped drastically to less than 10."

Wandering through the former town, Dave was first struck by the forgotten church with padlocked doors. He then moves further into the town where there is an old school, community centre, co-op store and houses. Dave is able to enter one of the homes, which is decorated in pink and purple, with old sofas and rotting carpets. Lastly, he shows the old, abandoned grain factory, which still has its elevators. Sharing the town on YouTube, people rushed to comment.
