Danica Taylor has issued a defiant message after she faced a backlash over the lyrics of her debut single, Ugh, with many taking her to task over her priding in 'lightskin'.

The 23-year-old former Love Island contestant had shared on Instagram with her 622,000 a clip from the video for her debut, which is taken from her EP. Danica told her fans in the caption that the song is "THE VIBE" and that "this song gives DANICA". Unfortunately, the dancer was taken to task over the lyric: "Put a dash of that sass wit Jamaica / Add a Queen Lightskin make is shake ya."

She came back fighting on social media after comments about the track slammed the Love Islander, with one person hitting out at Danica: "This girl is embarrassing & clearly has no darker friends coz why would u highlight light skin as 'prideful intention'? Anyone who does this with pride is colourist..."

Danica then posted a video in response, in which she initially indicated that she was considering postponing the release of the single in the wake of the backlash and "horrible comments" that had been posted about the track. She told her followers: "So, as you are aware, I am meant to be releasing my debut single tomorrow. I have been marketing for it. I've had some really horrible comments, so I think it may be best if I try and postpone it just while I try and figure this all out but I appreciate all the support."

A little later, Danica was in a less compromising mood after reflecting on what she would do next and vowed to ignore the haters so that she could press on with her new career. Defiant Danica hit out at the trolls and said she would not "conform to your opinions" as she aimed to put her debut single out as originally planned, no matter how many people have taken a dislike to its lyrics..

Taking to Instagram again, Danica said in a short video clip: "Guys, if you think that I was gonna not release my debut single because of some morons online, I don't care. Hundreds, thousands, however many of you, whatever you think, I don't give a f***. I don't conform to your opinions, so don't worry guys, the music is coming, 12pm, midday, 'Ugh' is dropping."

The 2022 Love Islander's debut single is the first track from her upcoming WILDCARDS EP.
