Ketchup is no doubt a favourite condiment among Brits - but a viral video claims we're using it completely wrong.

From a squirt on your chips, to a dollop on your roast potatoes, many of us use tomato sauce without thinking twice. If you're anything like me, you probably grab the bottle and squeeze it, letting the red liquid flow out and on to your plate.

Though TikToker, 'Jordan The Stallion', who claims to have written a paper on 'ketchup bottle development', says there's an even simpler way to release it that's often overlooked. Posting to his page @Jordan_The_Stallion8, he said: "The original glass ketchup bottle was made in 1890 but then they made a squeezable ketchup bottle in 1983.

"But it was still difficult to get ketchup out of the bottle, so, they made what's called an 'upside down container' or a 'gravity container' which was in 2001... I'm going to show you guys why that works."

Grabbing a bottle of Heinz, Jordan first demonstrated the way in which many of us do it - simultaneously squeezing the logo-displaying side `directly facing him and the opposite side. He explained: "Now, if you were to squeeze a gravity bottle from the front like this, you have to physically squeeze for it to come out.

"But, if you were to squeeze a bottle from the sides and then release, all the pressure is going to push the ketchup out on its own." In the video, Jordan then proceeded to do exactly this, squeezing the thinner sides of the bottle, allowing a constant stream of ketchup to flow out.

"This has to do with air pressure," he continued. "So, after a while, this won't really work, but it might work for the first couple of squeezes. Give it a try - have fun!"

Unsurprisingly, this post has since racked up thousands of comments, with Heinz also sharing the video while voicing their disbelief. "Who says classic brands can’t learn new tricks?" the brand joked, before adding: "We wait for the slow pour just like everyone else."

Others also chimed in: "How would they [Heinz] not know it's their own product," and: "Bro even Heinz don't know the secrets." Someone else wrote: "My favourite prank in the navy was get all the ketchup to the bottom then squeeze the air out of the bottle so when people opened it ketchup would go everywhere."
