WELSH CHARGER is likely to set off favourite for the Balfours LLP Novices’ Hurdle at Ludlow on Thursday, but JACKS PROFIT looks the one to bank on.
The David Evans-trained four-year-old beat Welsh Charger by two and three-quarter lengths over course and distance on his penultimate run.
And he still receives 10lb from his main rival, due to being a four-year-old.
After my selection’s hurdling victory, he continued his good form by winning on the Flat at Wolverhampton over one a half miles last month, so he should be fully tuned up for Thursday’s two-mile contest.
Ludlow hosts a jumps meeting on Thursday when Newsboy’s nap, Jacks Profit, is fancied to win the opening race (2.25) At Chepstow, bottom weight DOCK ROAD can take the Roofbase Chase.
The consistent seven-year-old, trained by Robbie Llewellyn, stayed on well in a handicap chase over 2m7f at Taunton last time to be beaten six lengths by Stormy Flight.
Previously to that, he was third over 3m1f at Hereford despite being badly hampered by a faller four out.
The son of Shirocco should relish the step up in trip today to a little over 3m6f, looks well handicapped and Llewellyn puts the blinkers back on today to keep him focused.
In a weak-looking race, he is sure to be in the mix.
