Three Lions fans were less than impressed with the Italian's vocals, taking to Twitter to voice their opinions.

And she responded to them on Instagram with a sultry selfie and an innocent V pose - which has a rude meaning in the UK - captioned: "England, I hope you enjoyed my gift."

Ellynora - who later deleted the post - broke down in tears following the backlash and apologised in an interview with Daily Mail.

She said: "I’m just so angry with what happened because I wanted it to be perfect but what happened wasn’t my fault.

"I want to say sorry to all the England fans who were at the stadium and watching on TV, I’m mortified for what happened and I want people to know that I wasn’t being disrespectful.

"It was such an honour to be asked to sing the national anthem and I was so excited about it. I’ve never sung anything like that before.

"I’m more of a pop artist but at the ground there was a sound issue.

"I had rehearsed the anthem twice the day before the match and then on the night three times but when it came to the actual performance, I had a problem with my earpiece.

"I had the music in my ear and then it stopped and started again, and I was hearing it twice, so it meant I was out of synch, and it was hard for me to catch up.

"I really tried my best to solve the problem but there was nothing I could do and I’m so angry about it.

"I was trying to adjust my singing to catch up with the anthem in the stadium, but it was too late."

Ellynora - who started singing aged 14 and moved to New York at 19 to study dancing - fluffed her lines as God Save The King rang throughout the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

She appeared to forget the words to the song, which didn't go down well with England fans.

One tweeted: "That was the worst rendition of the pre-match national anthems I’ve heard in my life."

Another said: "Maybe next time they’ll get someone who knows the words to God Save The King!

"What a disgrace!."

And another said: "The worst rendition of god save the king I’ve ever heard.

"Sack her immediately."

One remarked: "What the HELL was that!???

"I’ve never heard a worse rendition of any national anthem, ever."

One furious fan san: "How the f**k do you mess up God Save the King? ARREST HER!"

Another asked: "Was God Save The King butchered on purpose before #ITAENG?"

England moved to the top of Group C with a 2-1 win over the Italians at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Goals from Declan Rice and Harry Kane fired the Euro 2020 finalists to a famous victory in Naples.

Kane's first half penalty saw him net his 54th international goal and surpass Wayne Rooney as England's record goalscorer.

After the game, Kane told Channel 4: "It means everything.

"So excited to get back and put the England shirt back on.

"It had to be a penalty of course, and once it hit the back of the net, there was so much emotion. It was a magical moment.

"We haven't won in Italy in so long, so to score and win made it very special."

Gareth Southgate's troops will be back in action on Sunday for their second tournament qualifier, welcoming Ukraine to Wembley.
