ESCAPE to the Country buyers broke down in tears after an emotional stunt in the middle of a property hunt.

Tuesdays episode of the BBC programme saw Polly and her mum Mary visit several homes in Wiltshire in the hope of leaving her ex-council flat in South London behind for a new life in the country.

As well as a new home, Polly hoped to become part of a community and aimed to join a choir once she was settled.

Midway through the property hunt with presenter Nicki Chapman, Polly and Mary were taken to Warminster to meet the Athenaeum Singers.

As the pair entered the building, some of the choir members were there to perform.

The group was formed in 1978 and has 60 members, performing two big concerts a year.

Polly and Mary were thrilled to listen to them, with Mary even wiping tears from her eyes as they finished saying she felt "emotional".

The choir was just as thrilled to be part of Escape to the Country, sharing on Facebook: "A Song to Escape With. There was an all systems alert last August when a BBC production team contacted the secretary of the Athenaeum Singers.

"Apparently a mother and her daughter were going to feature on the popular programme ‘Escape to the Country’. Not only were they hoping to find a lovely property in the area but they also enjoyed music.

"The daughter was keen to join a local choir as well. So a dozen members of the Athenaeum Singers were gathered at speed, returning early from holidays and cancelling other commitments.

"The Fox and Hounds pub allowed the singers to rehearse there, and this part of the programme was filmed there as well.

"The singers were able to greet the prospective purchasers with a polished rendition of ‘Sing We and Chant It’, a piece by Thomas Morley."

At the end of the episode, Polly told Nicki that she had arranged a second viewing of the first property she had been shown.

Nicki then updated viewers in the final moments to say Polly had put in an offer on the first property, but couldn't proceed further until she had secured a buyer for her flat in London.
