In tonight's episode, Alfie kept wincing and clutching his side after his son Tommy punched him in Monday's episode.

Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) noticed and insisted Alfie go to the hospital, and despite his protests, wouldn't take no for an answer.

Despite the pair not exactly being best buddies, Phil accompanied Alfie into the hospital waiting room and gave him a pep talk after doctors asked Alfie to stay behind so they could do a CT scan.

In the final moments of the episode, Alfie joked about his results before the smile was wiped off his face when the doctor told him: "Mr Moon, given your scan and the blood in your urine, we need to rule out the possibility of prostate cancer."

As the classic EastEnders 'duff duff's' started, fans immediately took to X - formerly Twitter to comment on the start of what will be an emotional and important storyline.

One wrote: "It's good to see Phil offering his support towards Alfie not just over Tommy but also Alfie's health as well. I'm not ready for Alfie's prostate storyline" alongside crying and broken heart emojis.

Another added: "Oh alfie."

A third tweeted: "Alfieee nooooooooo."

Viewers will see how the market trader come to terms with the disease, and how it effects his friends and family.

The soap is working alongside Prostate Cancer UK and Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as experts in the field to ensure the storyline is portrayed as accurately and as sensitively as possible.

The show's executive producer, Chris Clenshaw, teased a "tough road ahead" for Alfie.

He revealed: “When we first embarked on this storyline we knew it was imperative that we worked alongside Prostate Cancer UK and Macmillan Cancer Support to take on and accurately portray such an emotional and pivotal storyline for Alfie, and one that many viewers may relate to Shane has thoughtfully portrayed the realities of being diagnosed with prostate cancer with grace and understanding.
