DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE my mum died three years ago, I have had a fear of dying.

I am a 34-year-old single man and I lived with my mother, who was more like my best friend. I just miss her so much.

She was diagnosed with cancer and survived for a few years.

She passed away in 2021 , just before her 60th birthday.

I am so scared that sometimes I stay up all night because I dare not go to sleep in case I don’t wake up.

That sounds ridiculous but I can’t help it.

I dread not being alive and dying alone with no afterlife.

The thought of death fills me with dread and I find myself panicking.

It is starting to affect my work. My colleagues have noticed that I always seem tired and often snappy. I used to be so easy-going.

I spend my time worrying about what will happen.

DEIDRE SAYS: This is a very common phobia but it should not stop you from living your life.

Talk to your GP about how you are feeling and your fears. It might also help to contact anxietyuk.org.uk (03444 775 774).
