This homemade weed killer is so easy to make.
For so many keen gardeners, the relentlessness of certain weeds can be incredibly frustrating when trying to enjoy your green space. Whilst some weeds, like dandelion, have at least the benefit of being great for attracting pollinators to your garden, which can benefit the other blooms you've planted, some are so prolific they will choke and crowd your plants, making it harder for them to thrive.
Killing weeds isn't always the easiest task, because most people want to ensure that their garden is an environmentally friendly space, and some chemical weed killers that you can buy in shops can be really damaging to your other plants. However, this hack could be the solution, and it requires only three common ingredients that most people have at home already.

Explaining the easy fix that can get rid of weeds easily. "Here's a trick to kill your weeds naturally and effortlessly," the interior designer and content creator explained.

"Combine one litre of white vinegar, three-quarters a cup of salt, and three tablespoons of dishwashing liquid. Give it a good stir and spray it directly onto your weeds, within days they will shrivel and die," she explained in the voiceover of the video, which saw her demonstrate exactly how to enact her hack.
You can get dishwashing liquid from Asda for as little as 69p, and salt is also very cheap to buy, costing only 70p at Waitrose. White vinegar is also inexpensive, costing only 35p at Tesco, and so altogether each time you create this DIY weedkilling solution, reports have claimed it will only set you back 7p per bottle of the solution.
Salt works to draw water from the plant, essentially dehydrating it until it dies - however, per Homes and Gardens, experts have warned you should be really careful when applying it because it can "kill just about anything that grows [and] is so toxic," that the plants you want to live could be damaged too.
Equally, white vinegar could damage other plants in the vicinity of the weeds you are trying to target, so you should exercise caution when using this hack. Some dishwashing soaps can have detrimental impacts on the ecosystem - these are often marked with a warning on the bottle, so make sure that you opt for one that is clearly proven to be eco-friendly before spraying it in your garden.
No weed killer is a perfect option, and as the Royal Horticultural Society notes, when it comes to weeds, prevention is better than a cure, and any weed killer "should be used only in a minimal and highly targeted manner."
