We all know that exercising enough is really important - but have you ever tried the Nordic walking technique?

According to the NHS, adults aged 19 to 64 should do some sort of physical activity every single day and should be aiming for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity a week. That's why the Nordic walking technique is great, as it takes all the benefits of normal walking, and turns the intensity up a notch so you can really feel your heart racing.

Incorporating Nordic walking poles into your exercise routine means your upper body is also incorporated into your workout, guaranteeing your stroll will become more intensive. So, if you hate the gym, but want a more intense exercise regime than simply walking, this could be perfect for you. And as it's National Walking Month, it's the perfect time to give it a go.

Bar Bend says that by harnessing your arm swing in the movement of walking, you're creating a "full-body building workout", as you're mimicking "a very similar pattern as cross-country skiers but on dry land".

Nordic walking "aims to increase the intensity [of your workout], jack up your heart rate, and even burn additional calories", so if you want to take things to the next level, it could be the perfect method.

Nordic walking poles cost just £24.99 on Amazon, which for many people is a month's gym membership, and you could see the benefits within no time. It has been described as "low impact", yet it can help greatly improve "cardiovascular health and performance", and can even be a fantastic way to make friends.

Bar Bend also stated: "Nordic walking provides a massive opportunity for many people to improve metrics such as resting heart rate, blood pressure, body mass, and quality of life". They did recommend that you find the right length of pole for your body, however, as then you'll be able to reap the benefits.
