BBC's Homes Under the Hammer Martin Roberts, 59, looked quite taken aback during the show when he heard how Rahim had built up his property empire from nothing.

The host had been showing viewers around a set of four flats under auction for the guide price of £95,000.

Rahim had snagged the lot for £100,000 and revealed he was planning to spend around £50,000 turning it from four flats into five with the timescale of between 16 and 18 weeks.

During their chat Martin asked the developer if this was something he did a lot and was blown away by his answer.

Rahim, who came to the UK at 15 years old from Ghana, explained that he had originally had a nine-to-five job but had hated it.

He had taken a chance in property and through hard work and mentoring had built a property portfolio worth a couple of million pounds.

Rahim stressed that he had no money to start with and had began by leasing properties rather than buying them before eventually opening his own estate agency.

However, it was the touching detail about Homes Under the Hammer that really made Martin get emotional.

He told him: “You were an inspiration to me as well Martin. I watched Homes Under The Hammer and thought 'I'm going to do this one day', it inspired me, especially you, doing this interview - it's a pleasure to meet you.”

Rahim went on: “Literally I started from zero to doing what I'm doing now, there are quite a few properties in my portfolio, worth a couple of million or so.

“It's due to the people I work with as well, I really commend them as well.”

Martin appeared quite overwhelmed, telling Rahim: "It's my pleasure to inspire".

The episode, which was filmed in March 2022, saw cameras return to the property over eight months later.

The four flat development had been transformed with new windows, doors and remodeled into modern and fresh flats and a studio.

After getting several promising quotes from estate agents for selling and renting prices, Rahim looked delighted with his addition to his property empire.

He said: “If I can start my property investment journey with little of my own money, to what I'm doing now, anybody can do it.

“There's no reason for you to be thinking you need lots of money to do it, as long as you put your mind and focus into it, you will absolutely smash it.”
